Raw Material Selection: The process begins with selecting high-quality raw materials, typically carbon steel billets or solid round steel bars. These materials are chosen based on their chemical composition, mechanical properties, and suitability for seamless pipe production.
Heating: The selected raw material undergoes heating in a rotary hearth furnace or induction furnace to reach a uniform forging temperature. Heating is crucial to facilitate plastic deformation and subsequent forming processes.
Piercing: The heated billet or round bar is pierced at the center with a mandrel mill or a piercing machine. This process creates a hollow shell called a "bloom" or "billet" with a thick wall.
Rolling: The pierced bloom or billet is then rolled and stretched over a mandrel on a continuous rolling mill. This process reduces the wall thickness and increases the length of the hollow shell. As it passes through several sets of rolls, the outer diameter and wall thickness are gradually reduced to achieve the desired dimensions.
Annealing: After rolling, the seamless pipe undergoes heat treatment known as annealing. This process involves heating the pipe to a specific temperature and holding it for a period to relieve internal stresses and ensure uniform mechanical properties throughout the pipe.
Sizing: The annealed pipe is passed through a series of sizing rolls to achieve the final dimensions and improve surface finish. Sizing also ensures the accuracy of the outer diameter and wall thickness according to the specified tolerances.
Straightening: If necessary, the pipe undergoes straightening to correct any bending or distortion caused during the manufacturing process. Straightening ensures the pipe meets the required straightness criteria.
